Expository Direct Prompt by: Jobert Mendoza
In this era where communicating in a good way is a must to have a great connection, speaking the English language is a requirement for an individual to share with people of different nationalities. We all know that speaking English has been used by many of us, especially those working abroad or those who have a job that requires speaking English. But the question that should be given a clear answer is: Does speaking the English language make the Filipinos less of a Filipino? It is a no because speaking English is just a testament to us being versatile in speaking. We all know that being a Filipino will never be erased because the values and spirit of being a citizen of our country will still be overflowing.
Speaking the English language can give you a career opportunity here and abroad. That is why Filipinos are good at communication in English, and it is an international language that people speak all over the world. The English language is fundamental in how you write, read, and pronounce it very well. We are now in the modern age, and most people, not only Filipinos, can speak and understand the English language. In addition, I can say that speaking English will never lessen us being Filipino but rather increase because this will show how we value the importance of communication. It also shows how we love ourselves, our family, and our country. We intended to learn this language because we want to work outside the country or work that will require English speaking. It is just evidence that we value family because we work for them and enjoy the best for them.
Remember that speaking English will not make us less of a Filipino. It neither diminishes our sense of patriotism toward our fatherland, more so to our language. By using the lingua franca, we are unconsciously helping ourselves to become more productive citizens. We are allowing ourselves to talk to people of various colors, and thus we communicate to the world and say Hello, World! And through these ladies and gentlemen, we will eventually help our nation achieve globalization. Let us consider that English is stated in our constitution as our second language.
